Journey for Healing
Client: Shari Stark, LPC/ Journey for Healing
Notes: Creation of a new identity and a complete website.

The client wanted an identity and website that would provide comprehensive information to visitors and potential clients. The color scheme of a warm green was chosen to give a feeling of security and imply the natural roots of counseling. The website has a clean look and arranges information so that the most important pieces are on every page.

Self-promotional Identity
Client: Self-promotional identity
Note: Identity and leave-behinds.

Note: Identity and leave-behinds.

The identity developed from the meanings and origins of each part of the name, “Stephanie Renee Stark”; Stephanie, from the Greek root meaning “crown”, RenĂ©e meaning “born again” at its Latin root, and Stark meaning “strong” in German. The Greek root of the name inspired the use of Greek pottery, the Medusa, and the Hydra as muses for the logo. It is a woman’s face, divided in half. She wears a laurel, and her hair is ivy-like and natural.

The design elements from the logo were used to create brand recognition on other collateral, and the word to tie them all together was the word valiant, meaning “courageous, brave in the face of danger.”
Woot! Campaign
Client: Woot! / woot.com
Notes: Full campaign including surprise media.

Notes: Full campaign including surprise media.

A series of four print ads would run in magazines such as PCWorld or Print Magazine, and would utilize thermochromatic ink as a spot color in order to highlight the small window of time in which a product is available.

The campaign runs with their slogan, “One day. One deal.” including the online rollover ad and the iPhone application concept.

The mousepad is a concept item using a green ink as a thermochromatic mask. When a person uses the mouse, the warmth from their wrist would reveal the yellow message, reminding them to check website (conveniently, they are already at their computer using the mouse).

Gregg Berryman’s Notes On Graphic Design And Visual Communication is still considered one of the most informative graphic design reference books, despite last being revised in 1990. While the content is very good, the copy layout, illustrations and overall feel of the book are very dated.

The concept behind the book was to emphasize the “collected” content, using Haribo gummy bears as pixels to spell out the title in a fun way. The book is hand bound metal, cloth and soft plastic, with slick pages.

Using a common object as pixels, build a word that can describe the object itself. No two letters in the word may be the same, and the object should be small and inexpensive.

The chosen object was Haribo gummi bears, and due to their large quantity and anthropomorphic shape, “collected” was a positive word that could be used to describe them.
Exploring Typography
Exploring Typography
Typographic layouts were explored in two parts. For the first project, the challenge was to use a section of text written about the O.J. Simpson trial to experiment with typographic layouts and themes.

Restrictions varied for each of the 16 themes for the purpose of encouraging creative thinking.

The second project involved the construction of a cube that related the basic principles of gravity in a creative and sophisticated manner.
